Column "Camellia" part 14
~Oshima Park Camellia Flowering Information~
Camellias have started to bloom in the Oshima Park camellia garden. Perhaps because this was a warm year, the flowers have started to bloom earlier than in average years.
In the case of cherry trees, they start to bloom when they feel the warmth after sleeping through the cold of winter, but camellia buds appear around June before summer after which they sometimes bloom in September even if they have not been exposed to coldness, as if they are sleeping lightly as they lie dormant.
Incidentally, the buds of the sasanqua, which is related to the camellia, all blossom before it gets cold without going dormant. Although the camellias sleep lightly, they are able to rest so they can bloom from autumn to spring.
